Snow is piled on Mill Street in Bayfield on Tuesday morning. Town crews were using plows, backhoes and a military truck to remove the snow later that day.
Bayfield and Durango schools and the Southern Ute tribal offices were closed Tuesday as several inches of snow fell throughout the Pine River Valley. Ignacio schools remained open.
An Ignacio reader reported a few inches of snow there, while a foot or more fell in Beaver Meadows and Forest Lakes, north of Bayfield.
The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny skies with highs in the upper 40s this weekend with lows in the 20s.
