Fifth-grade Demons are 3-0 in YAFL and on a 135-0 run

One team played their season opener in Durango’s Youth American Football League season; one team remained undefeated.

All in all, the Demons went 3-3 in Week 3 and are 9-7 overall.

The second-grade Demons sat idle the first two weeks of the season, then opened Week 3 with a close 14-7 loss to the Farmington Sting.

Linkin Griego rushed for the Demons’ lone touchdown, while Samuel Litherbury led the Demons’ defense with five tackles.

The Demons will play Kirtland at 1 p.m. Saturday in Aztec.

The fifth-grade Demons improved to 3-0 with a 56-0 rout over Ignacio.

The Demons led 33-0 after the first quarter. led by Jordan Woolverton’s four touchdowns and a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown by Niko Mestas to cap the quarter.

Woolverton ran for 4- and 5-yard touchdowns, then threw a 5-yard touchdown to Gage Mestas and a 29-yard touchdown to Kyler Riemers.

Demetrius Trujillo had a sack for a safety, then Woolverton returned the ensuing punt for a 41-yard touchdown.

Jeremiah Loyd returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown to finalize the Demons’ 48-point first half.

Braedy Short provided the final margin of victory with a 32-yard touchdown run.

Cal Walsh led the Demons’ defense, which produced five turnovers and their third consecutive shutout to start the season. Collectively, the Demons – idle the next two weeks – now have outscored their opponents 135-0.

The third-grade Demons ran their record to 2-1 with a 25-6 victory over the Bloomfield Bobcats on Saturday.

Beau Brunson led the Demons with three rushing touchdowns. Zach Haber had one, and Tagert Bardin rushed for an extra point and 2-for-4 passing on the day.

Defensively, the Demons were led by Josh Bates’ five tackles and one sack. Vince Draper had three tackles and a sack.

The Demons will host the Farmington Oilers at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School.

The sixth-grade Demons White also improved to 2-1 on the season with a 34-12 victory at Cortez.

The Demons White will play Kirtland at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kirtland, N.M.

The Demons Red dropped to 1-2 with a 32-0 loss to the Farmington Demolition.

The Demons Red will host Bloomfield on Saturday at Miller Middle School.

Bayfield edged the fourth-grade Demons 12-6 to drop the Demons to 1-2.

Emmett Thompson rushed for the Demons’ only touchdown.

The Demons will play at 11 a.m. Saturday in Farmington.
