As a resident of Durango for 30 years and an avid supporter of Native American issues, I must come to the defense of Jackson Clark and Toh-Atin Gallery.
Jackson and the gallery have probably been the biggest supporter of Native rights and Native arts in the region for three generations. They are one of the very few galleries to buy Native art outright, as opposed to consignment and have beautiful relationships with Navajo families that have endured generations.
I encourage the protesters of local Native issues to continue their fight, but make sure that they are fighting the real enemies of their cause.
