One of the most important issues the United States faces is the decline of education, yet this year’s presidential candidates fail to bring up the subject. According to Hayley Munguia, “only 4 percent of Americans consider education as the nation’s most important issue,” while the economy is the leading issue with 33 percent. Education is one of the few topics that candidates choose to bring up during this year’s campaigns. College affordability is a major problem students face after high school graduation.
Democrats have brought up some solutions, making community college completely free; Hillary’s plan is to make public college and universities absolutely free. The United States does not have the resources to provide free degrees for everyone in the country.
The democratic solution to free college is raising taxes. Raising taxes will bankrupt the American people, forcing the middle class to fall deeper into poverty. The United States must come up with a plan for education before we fall behind in this technologically advanced world without delivering the final blow to taxpaying citizens.
