April 24 is the 101 year commemoration of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turkish government.
Two million Christians were killed, one and a half million of whom were Armenians. While the Armenians have recovered and now have their own independent country (plus a large number in the diaspora), their motto remains“Never Forget.”
On April 21, the movie The Promise opened nationwide. In Durango it is playing at the Stadium 9.
While it is listed as a love story, it seems to have enough historical content to give the viewer at least a glimpse of the events that took place at the beginning of the past century.
As we hear of events around the world today, with Christians being persecuted in many countries, it becomes even more important to remember the events of the past and to do our best to not repeat them.
