CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Attorneys are whittling down the number of potential jurors in the Colorado theater shooting case as the final phase of jury selection begins.

Lawyers questioned the remaining candidates as a large group Monday in the final push to seat 12 jurors and 12 alternates for the months-long trial of James Holmes.

Holmes had a new, shorter haircut for the hearing and shaved the beard he wore during the last round of jury questioning.

He’s pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to killing 12 people and injuring 70 others in the July 2012 attack on a Denver-area movie theater.

A jury could be seated as soon as Monday, but Judge Carlos A. Samour Jr. has scheduled two days for group questioning. Jury selection in the case began in late January.
