The cost to U.S. Homeland Security for ICE activities in Minneapolis is conservatively estimated to be about $18 million a week; for 10 weeks, it’s $180 million (from: USAspending.gov.agency). Minneapolis has estimated that the ICE surge cost the city over $200 million. ICE arrested about 3,000 people. That’s $127,000 per person just for the arrest – not for all the follow-up. But only about 100 to 110 of those individuals had actual “criminal” records – those who ICE is supposedly searching for and arresting.
My fellow taxpayers, we just paid close to $3.5 million for each “real criminal” they arrested, as well as experiencing the brutal sacrifice of two fine, innocent citizens. ICE must be abolished – not altered a bit. It acts with illegality, cruelty, inhumanity, violence, immorality and impunity. And it is abhorrently expensive as well. Our local and state police do a far, far better job at a tiny fraction of the cost and trauma while often being underfunded. ICE must go.
