To all naysayers, pundits and anyone “out there” who spends way too much time criticizing and nitpicking our new president: Enough already!
Just think – if you lived in one of many other countries who don’t have freedom of speech and only spoke your mind – you could spend the rest of your life in prison or worse, be put to death.
We Americans all have different opinions, but we seem to go overboard by pushing the envelope just too far. We’re lucky to live in the United States where citizens enjoy so many rights; that’s why so many others want to live here.
But with freedom comes responsibility – including the responsibility to follow our country’s laws and to respect the outcome of the election process.
While we are allowing our new leaders time to do their jobs, we all could use any extra time we have productively by volunteering or supporting one of our community’s nonprofit groups. That way, we can each participate in making our country stronger.
It’s easy to find your “helping niche” – check out the volunteering opportunities list that The Durango Herald publishes. And then, let’s all go forward together.
