Fire assignment offered simple reminder

I just recently returned from a fire assignment in Winthrop, Washington. I was at the Valley Helibase the day the Twisp River Fire blew up and three young firefighters lost their lives. Through this terrible tragedy, I watched as the community pulled together. I was thanked many times for the job I do, and folks showed up with food and emotional support for all of us. I drove home to Durango wondering: What good could come out of this? I think that everyone should take a moment for yourselves and think how lucky you are to be alive. Practice random acts kindness daily. Tell your family and friends how much they mean to you. (I love you, Mom!)
