Firefighters on Tuesday were working a 111-acre wildfire on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation in southwest La Plata County.
The Ute 63 Fire was discovered at 5:51 p.m. Sunday near Morgan Canyon, a remote area southwest of Marvel. The fire increased by more than 70 acres from Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon, according to the Interagency Fire Center.
The cause of the fire was listed as “natural,” according to the report.
The Southern Ute Indian Tribe initiated Stage 1 fire restrictions on July 1 in response to high temperatures, dry fuel conditions and several wildfire startups across the region.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs did not respond to multiple requests for additional details, including information about containment.
