Fire destroys mobile home south of Durango

Family of four displaced
Durango Fire Protection District firefighters extinguish flames Wednesday on a mobile home south of Durango on Wheeler Loop. The blaze destroyed the home.

A family of four was displaced Wednesday when its mobile home caught fire south of Durango.

Firefighters received the call at 2:18 p.m. at 146 Wheeler Loop, about four miles south of Durango along La Posta Road (County Road 213), said Scot Davis, spokesman with the Durango Fire Protection District.

“Upon arrival, we found the house 50 percent engulfed by flames,” he said.

Firefighters took a “defensive strategy,” meaning they attacked the flames from the outside, before being able to enter the home to extinguish lingering flames, Davis said.

The trailer was occupied by two adults and two children, but no one was home at the time of the fire, he said.

A family member on scene said the trailer was occupied by Danny and Cecelia Lucero.

The cause remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon.

“It looks like a total loss to me,” Davis said.

Firefighters arrived less than 10 minutes after receiving the call.
