Fire prevention talk to be offered at Durango rec center

A workshop about landscaping for fire protection will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The workshop will focus on how to protect a home from fire and how to create beautiful fire-resistant landscaping. Those who attend will be entered to win a free fire-prevention consultation from Eva Montane of Columbine Landscaping.

Speakers will include Karola Hanks, Durango Fire Protection District fire marshal; Charlie Landsman, La Plata County co-coordinator of FireWise of Southwest Colorado; and Montane, owner of Columbine Landscaping.

Drinks and sweet treats will be provided. Attendees can bring a brown bag lunch.

Cost is $20.
