The Assayii Lake fire has burned more than 13,000 acres in the Navajo Nation between Gallup and Farmington. The fire is in the Chuska Mountains near the Arizona border. Smoke from the fire drifted north into Colorado this week. Because of high winds and low humidity, red flag warnings were issued locally throughout the week. The fire is 5 percent contained and has burned several sheep camps and hogans on the area, according to the Navajo Times.
