Fire station move a no-brainer

The tragic house-to-house fire in the Boulder area is a perfect example of why a fire station and ambulance service need to be as close to demand as possible. Indeed, ours was before a need for more space and available space dictated it be moved from mid-town east of Main to riverside.

Eighty percent of today’s calls are to Main, Second or third Avenue. A response can be delayed five to 15 minutes by a blockage on Camino del Rio or Main Avenue or by one of the many trains. And while we have little wind, we have a lot of old frame buildings, wiring and chimneys.

To sum up, there is only one egress for a quick response from the riverside station, and that is directly into now heavy Camino del Rio vehicle traffic and train crossings. But as I understand it, there will be five clear points of egress in all directions from the high school property. From a quick response point of view, the move is a no-brainer.
