FireWise of Southwest Colorado will offer an orientation session for residents who want to become Neighborhood Ambassadors for their communities.
The session will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the San Juan Public Lands Center in Durango, 15 Burnett Court. This is the first of two orientation sessions.
Potential ambassadors will be introduced to technical specialists from the Colorado State Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and will learn about fire ecology, fire behavior, insects and disease and the importance of defensible space around homes.
The FireWise Neighborhood Ambassador Program was created to promote wildfire education and action. Ambassadors are volunteers who commit to educating and mobilizing their neighborhoods around wildfire safety and preparedness. FireWise supports over 130 Neighborhood Ambassadors in more than 80 high-risk communities across the five-county region.
