First Day Hike will take place Jan. 1 at Navajo State Park

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will host a First Day Hike at Navajo State Park starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 1 at the visitor’s center, 1526 County Road 982 in Arboles, around 40 miles southeast of Durango.

The hike will take around two hours to complete on fairly level ground, and hikers should dress for the weather, wear good hiking shoes and bring water. Snacks will be served before the hike begins.

First Day Hikes is a national program aimed at encouraging people to get outside to local parks and wild areas. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has been participating in the program since 2012. Now, 25 of Colorado’s state parks offer First Day Hikes.

The park entry fee is $8 per vehicle, and an annual pass can be purchased for $80.
