Our first responders have the right of way; period. Day after day and often nights, they get emergency calls. What I’m seeing more and more are rude, irresponsible drivers pouring into Durango who totally disregard the sirens and apparently have never been taught that first responders, i.e., fire trucks and ambulances, police and sheriffs, have the right of way, with no exception! They may or may not be responding to an emergency, they don’t know until they get there.
This evening, the fire engine and ambulance rolled out lights and sirens blaring, and drivers completely, with maybe one exception who actually slowed down and pulled over, ignored them coming down Holly. The rest didn’t even bother to slow down, turned in front of them. Maybe our police or sheriff’s office might consider an escort and bust the ones who think they can take on a fire truck. To you who believe you can disregard our responders, I hope you’re not the one lying in the middle of the street bleeding out because some self-centered, big city driver who maybe just moved here, or not, decided that he or she “had the right of way.” You don’t!
