After a strong season that ended in the Class 4A state semifinals, five Durango High School girls players were honored with all-state nods.

DHS junior Mason Rowland made the all-state first team. Rowland scored a team-high 17 goals and assisted six more this season, flying in to head some shots in the goal and kicking others in. Rowland’s throw-ins also resembled corner kicks, and she actually scored a couple goals with her throws as well.

Senior goalie Jocelyn Feir landed on the all-state second team. Feir played in all 19 of the team’s games, making 108 saves on the season to help DHS shut out nine of the teams it faced.

DHS outscored its opponents 63-12 this year, and only surrendered two or more goals three times.

Junior midfielder Riley Campbell, senior defender Emy Mattox and junior midfielder Sophie Ragsdale all earned all-state honorable mentions.

In Class 3A, Bayfield freshman midfielder Sydney Rey was honored with an all-state honorable mention. Rey led BHS to a 9-6 overall record with 12 goals in 11 games this season.

No Ignacio players were selected in Class 2A.

The same five Demons also earned 5A/4A Southwestern League honors.

Rowland, Feir and Ragsdale were name to the league’s first team.

Campbell and Mattox made all-league second team.

Rowland, meanwhile, was honored as the Southwestern League Player of the Year.

The Demons went 16-3 this year, winning three playoff games to reach the 4A state semifinals. The eventual state champion, Northfield, however, beat DHS 1-0 in overtime while playing with the wind to end Durango’s run.

Ella Woody of Windsor was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, while Izzy Newton of Kent Denver and Helen Leon of Dawson took the POY awards in 3A and 2A, respectively.
