Aimee Fladt and Eric Neal are the Hillcrest Golf Club’s 2022 club champions.
The golf course hosted its annual 36-hole, stroke play championship on Saturday and Sunday, sponsored by Down, McDonough, Cowan & Foley LLC.
Fladt defended her title from last year while Neal, a former Fort Lewis golfer, managed to deny Kermitt Barrett a ninth club title.
In the championship flight, Levi Larson shot a 73 on Saturday to take the lead after round 1. Neal shot a 77 to trail Larson while last year’s winner, Barrett, was in third after Saturday with a 78.
On Sunday, however, Neal lowered his score by six strokes as Larson struggled and shot an 83. Neal passed him in the standings and won the club championship with a two-day score of 148.
Barrett shot a 74 on Sunday to finish second with a 152. Eben Harrell, who shot an 88 Saturday, finished strong and shot a 67 Sunday to finish third at 155. Larson slid to fourth place with a 156. Jameson Smith, meanwhile, won the net championship with a 146.
In the women’s flight, Fladt played consistent golf, shooting a 78 on Saturday and then a 78 on Sunday to finish first with a 156 gross score. Dee Ray was also consistent, shooting rounds of 81 on both days to finish second with a 162. Jeannie Wheeldon finished third with a 171 while Amy Barrett finished first in the net competition with a 142.
Several other flights were also contested over the weekend.
In the Blue/Gold first flight, Richard Mallett finished first with a 157 after rounds of 82 and 75. John Siegris finished five shots back in second while Phil Pendorf took third with a 164. Pendorf was also the flight’s net champ (150).
In the Blue/Gold second flight, Stuart Curet shot a two-day 169 to win the title. John Ball finished second, two shots back, while Mark Walters shot a 172 to place third. Steve Kitson won the net title with a 146.
In the blue first flight, Greg Walsh shot a 71 and a 75 to place first with a 146, finishing 10 strokes ahead of Ken Kirby in second and 11 ahead of David Schanzenbaker in third.
In the blue, second flight, Tim Miller finished first at 167 after rounds of 85 and 82, beating Ryan Bandy by two strokes. Ryan Cheese was the flight’s net winner (137).
Whitey Powers won the gold flight with a 168 (87 and 81), besting net champ, Russ Monell (142) by four strokes and Mick McDermott by 10.
Hillcrest also held its junior club championships over the weekend. Breanna Barrett shot a 65 to win the girls’ 9-hole David Person Memorial junior Club Championship. Bryson Barrett shot a 60 to win the boys 9-hole championship, two shots better than Bridgor Barrett.
Drew Jepson and Jackson Orndorff, meanwhile, both shot a 91 to tie for first in the 18-hole boys competitive championship. Alex Elias finished third with a 102.
