Flags were lowered at government buildings across Colorado on Tuesday – including in Durango – in honor of a fallen Denver firefighter. They are to remain at half-staff through Saturday in honor of victims of the terrorist attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide in memory of John Whelan. Flags were lowered at the La Plata County Administration Building, the Courthouse and Durango Public Library, to name a few.
Whelan, 46, died on July 15 from injuries he suffered during a June warehouse fire. He was a 15-year veteran of the Denver Fire Department.
