Flags ordered to half-staff for California shootings

Marks third order in recent weeks stemming from mass-shootings and attacks
Flags flew at half-staff Thursday at government buildings in Durango in honor of the lives lost in a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

DENVER – For the third time in recent weeks, Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags be flown at half-staff on all public buildings statewide in honor of the lives lost in mass shootings.

The latest order is in response to Wednesday’s attack in San Bernardino, California. The most recent reports state 14 died in the holiday party carnage and 21 more were wounded.

The order is effective immediately and runs through Monday. It was proclaimed by President Barack Obama.

Hickenlooper previously ordered state flags lowered as a mark of respect for the victims of the shootings at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs last Friday. Three died in the incident – a police officer and two civilians. Another nine were injured by bullets.

The order Thursday extends the previous order to lower flags to half-staff in honor of the victims of the Planned Parenthood shooting.

After the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, Hickenlooper ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims. The attackers killed 130 people.
