FLC alum donates $90,000 for new hall

FLC alumnus Chuck Baltzer, who graduated with a degree in geology in 1982, has donated $90,000 to the school. Most of the funds were dedicated to build a lab and student library in the Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall at FLC, which is now under construction.

Not only has Fort Lewis College alumnus Chuck Baltzer, class of 1982, used his education for a successful career in geology, he’s paying it forward by writing a check to FLC for $90,000 for the new Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall. The bulk of the donation, $80,000, will go toward a lab and student library in the building, and the rest will support departmental research projects.

Baltzer, who now runs Environmental Support Services in Evergreen, is grateful for what he learned at the Fort.

“I was really stunned at the education I was getting and the affordability of it,” he said. “I know that the Fort Lewis geologist comes out with a better rounded geological education than what I’ve found with other geologists I’ve encountered in my career.”

And if the view from the labs doesn’t inspire students, he doesn’t know what will.

The FLC Foundation has raised $1.1 million of its $4.2 million goal for the building to date.
