FLC celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Fiesta on the Mesa

The 14th annual Fiesta on the Mesa will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Student Union Outdoor Plaza at Fort Lewis College. The public is invited to join the college community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with authentic food, colorful folkloric dances, and live music.

All Fort Lewis College students, faculty and staff have dinner free with ID. Dinner is open to community members for $10 and children under 10 for $4.

Fiesta on the Mesa's live outdoor entertainment is free and open to everyone.

This year's live music will be provided by Severo y Grupo Fuego. With a fusion of Mexican and Puerto Rican upbringings, the group brings award-winning traditional Latin music with their own versatile styles. As one of the top names in the New Mexico music scene, this group's pride, passion, and drive shine every minute they are on stage. Playing the keyboard, accordion, and assisting in vocals is Durango High School alum Adrian Medina.

Also featured at the event will be Ballet Folklorico de Durango and master of ceremonies Alex Rodriguez with DJ Euphoria.

In addition to all the entertainment, Fiesta On The Mesa will also include an "El Grito" (the shout) contest and a piñata and water balloon toss for children hosted by Club del Centro students. The event is free and fun for all ages.

Fiesta on the Mesa kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated nationally from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The date also commemorates one of Mexico's most important national holidays, known as "El Día del Grito," Mexico's Independence Day.
