FLC, DHS teams hit the road

Softball team splits series with CSU Pueblo

Teams from Durango High School and Fort Lewis College hit the road over the weekend.

The Durango High School girls’ soccer team took on Cherry Creek on Saturday, but lost a close contest, 1-0. DHS also was also scheduled to play Telluride on Tuesday after this paper went to press.

The DHS boys lacrosse team began its year at Golden, but came up short in its opener, 16-4. Owen Muraro scored three goals for DHS while Logan Gurule scored once and assisted two more goals.

The Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team took on Westminster College in Utah on Saturday and got a career-high seven goals from Haley Dostie. Unfortunately for FLC, it wasn’t enough to help the team score its first win of the year. Westminster ended up winning 19-11 to improve to 2-0 while FLC slid to 0-4.

FLC will next play Rockhurst University on Saturday at neutral site in Pueblo.

The FLC softball team split its series with CSU Pueblo over the weekend in Bloomfield, New Mexico two games apiece.

On Saturday, CSU Pueblo won the first game 10-2. In the second game, Sloan Shotten got a walk-off hit for the win, 3-2. Shotten stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 2-2 and the bases loaded. Shotten then smacked the game-winning hit into right center.

On Sunday, FLC won 7-2 in the first game, but CSU Pueblo on the series finale 9-6.

FLC is now 8-15 overall and 6-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSU Pueblo is 8-5, 3-13.

FLC will next play at Regis University on Saturday and Sunday.
