From reading the Durango Herald one would think that enrollment at Fort Lewis College is up. It is not. It is down over 2 percent this year alone.
The recent move from four to three credit classes will make staying in college even more difficult for students who are struggling to balance family with school or who have to work to support themselves through school. Spending $200,000 on an outside recruiting agency will not help if the college continues to ignore the needs of students.
The pilot program marks a change in the college prioritizing what students want and need. Let’s hope that the trend that prioritizes academic priorities over administrative priorities continues.
