The Fort Lewis College men’s and women’s basketball teams were scheduled to host Black Hills State University on Saturday in some tough conference challenges, but the games were postponed because of weather and adverse transportation conditions as snow engulfed the area.
The Skyhawks will now host the Yellow Jackets on Feb. 13. The women will tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
Both men’s teams are off to strong starts and both are ranked in national polls. Black Hills reached the national semifinals last year and is 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, helping them score the No. 3 ranking in the latest NABC and D2SIDA national polls.
The Skyhawks, fresh off a 93-83 win over South Dakota School of Mines on Friday, are ranked No. 15 by the NABC and No. 17 by D2SIDA with an 11-1 overall record and 5-1 conference mark.
The FLC women also won their last game, 77-67 against South Dakota Mines, and are now 6-6 overall, 3-3 RMAC. Black Hills is one game ahead of FLC in the conference standings at 9-3, 4-2.
Before facing the Yellow Jackets, however, the Skyhawks will have a couple of tough tests at home this week against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday and Regis on Saturday.
The UCCS men are just behind FLC in the conference standings with a 10-3, 4-2 record. Regis is 5-7, 2-4.
The Regis women, meanwhile, are just ahead of FLC in the conference standings at 7-5, 4-2. The UCCS women are 3-9, 2-4.
The women will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and at 5 p.m. Saturday with the men following.
Correction: A previous version of this story said Fort Lewis will be on the road against UCCS and Regis. FLC will in fact host those teams.
