Josh Woodworth shot a third-round 68 on Tuesday at the West Texas A&M University Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The score was the best round of the tournament for Fort Lewis College, and it tied him for ninth overall.
FLC, however, finished 15th out of 17 teams.
“It’s a new week and another step forward,” FLC golf head coach Guy Begay said in a news release. “Overall, we played better than last week, and we should continue to see forward progress in the weeks to come.”
Wayland Baptist won the tournament with an 847 over three rounds in two days, two strokes ahead of UC-Colorado Springs.
St. Mary’s finished third at 857, while Cameron, Lubbock Christian and Oklahoma Christian all tied for fourth at 862.
Host West Texas A&M finished seventh at 866.
Jose A. Hernandez of St. Edward’s and Oscar Spolander of West Texas A&M tied for first at 9-under par at the par-72, 6,538-yard Parkland Style Golf Course at Tascosa Country Club.
James Bolton of Newman and Dillon Van Essen of St. Edward’s tied for third at 7-under par.
Kirby Gorzell of St. Mary’s and Patrick Skakel of UC-Colorado Springs tied for fifth at 6-under par.
Woodworth shot 72-73-68–213 for 3-under par.
Lucas Laudick of FLC finished tied for 43rd at 5-over par, and Dillon Washburn (14+), Mitch Donley (18+) and Ryan Tanner (23+) rounded out the Skyhawks’ round.
FLC will play the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Event No. 1, hosted by Colorado Mines, on Sept. 22-23 at Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City.
