FLC honors athletes with Skyler’s

Kot and Fankhouser named athletes of the year

Fort Lewis College recently hosted The Skyler’s and also a spring Hall of Fame ceremony, honoring student-athletes from this year while inducting an all-soccer class to honor the rich history of Skyhawks soccer.

Fort Lewis had more than 30 student-athletes named to All-Conference teams as well as All-Region, All-American and a National Runner-Up, highlighting Skyhawk accomplishments. Over 60 student-athletes were also named to Academic All-Conference teams, and the department ended the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.24.

The Skyler’s, an awards ceremony for FLC student-athletes, featured 15 awards.

Men’s basketball player Akuel Kot was named the Men’s Athlete of the Year after averaging 24.3 points per game and earning All-American honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Men’s basketball was also named the Team of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year after a 29-4 season that included a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title.

Runner Katie Fankhouser earned the Women’s Athlete of the Year nod. Fankhouser earned a First Team All-American honor with a 26th-place finish at the national cross-country meet. Fankhouser then finished second in the nation in the 1,500 meters at the outdoor track and field national championships to cap off her year.

The Skyler’s Spirit Award went to women’s lacrosse player JoJo Lutz.

Football player Hunter Villavicencio was named the Men’s Comeback Player of the Year while volleyball player Rylee Johnson was named Women’s Comeback Player of the Year.

The community service awards went to the men’s soccer team and women’s volleyball team.

Kayla Stone, meanwhile, scored Play of the Year. The softball player was honored for the home run she bashed against Colorado Mesa University.

The Game of Year went to the men’s and women’s basketball Nike N7 contests, held in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.

The men’s and women’s Don Whalen Academic Awards went to cross-country and track athlete Max Robinson and women’s golfer Peyton Glenn.

Men’s basketball player JaQuaylon “Q” Mays was named the Men’s Newcomer of the Year.

Women’s basketball player Lanae Billy, meanwhile, was named the Women’s Newcomer of the Year.
