Skyhawks remain in the peloton chasing breakaway Marion

Fort Lewis College is in the road championship peloton, but after Day 2 of the Collegiate Road Nationals, it’s going to be hard for anyone to catch breakaway Marian.

The Skyhawks, who have won 18 national titles but not a single road championship, remained fourth with 220 points after Saturday’s round of criterium races in Ogden, Utah.

Marian, which swept the team time trials Friday, leads with 376 omnium points.

Colorado is second with 261 and Lindenwood third with 252.

FLC, which finished third (men) and seventh (women) in the team time trials, also was fourth overall after Day 1.Marian went 1-2 individually in both the men’s and women’s criterium races:

Colton Barrett won the men’s 75-minute race, with teammate Adam Leibovitz behind him.Coryn Rivera was the top woman after 60 minutes, followed by teammate Kaitlin Antonneau.

The Skyhawks’ men’s cycling team wasn’t far off, with Renan Maia taking fourth and Griffin Easter fifth. Dean Haas finished 30th, and Trevor Brooks was 87th for FLC.

Ivie Crawford was FLC’s top woman in 21st, followed by Lauren Catlin in 41st and Nathalie Krantz in 51st.

Spencer Oswald of Lees-McRae won the individual time trial Saturday, followed by Dillon Caldwell of Oregon and Mitchell Peterson of Utah.

Brooks finished 26th.

Jessica Prinner of Midwestern State finished first in the women’s individual time trial, while Rosalyn Zylkowski of Washington State finished second and Danielle Haulman of UC-Davis third.

FLC did not have any female individual time trial cyclists.The national championships will wrap up today with the men’s and women’s road races.
