After a split last week that featured a dominating 6-1 win at home and a close 4-3 loss on the road, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team will close out its regular season at home with a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups against Regis University at 7 p.m. today and South Dakota School of Mines at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Fort Lewis will celebrate senior day on Sunday against South Dakota Mines, honoring Daniel Coronado Morales, Andres Hernandez and Ciaran Feeney.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 1-1 split week against Adams State and MSU Denver. Fort Lewis opened its week with a dominating 6-1 win over the Grizzlies at home. Loic Jean-Baptiste and Gabriel Legendre each netted a pair of goals while Isaac Garro and Maximilian Meier each added a goal as well. The Skyhawks maintained similar success against the Roadrunners, but a goal in the 88th minute sealed the deal for MSUD. Ciaran Feeney scored his first goal of the season on a shot from nearly 30 yards out. Garro and Jean-Baptiste also scored.
As it stands Fort Lewis sits ninth in the RMAC, just outside of the six-team conference tournament. The Skyhawks will need to win both matches this week for a shot at the No. 6 spot. Regis, Colorado Mesa, and Metropolitan State University of Denver will all need to lose their final two matches as well.
Regis heads to Durango after a pair of back-to-back wins at home over Westminster College (Utah) 2-1 and Colorado Mesa University 2-0. The Rangers scored a goal in the 26th minute against the Griffins, holding the 1-0 lead until adding a second in the 72nd minute to secure the win. Against the Mavericks, Regis allowed 34 total shots that included 10 shots on goal, but Mesa could not find the back of the net.
As a team, the Rangers average 6.76 shots per game, sitting fourth best in the RMAC. Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit spearheads the offense with 10 goals on the season. The sophomore has also added three assists. Luca Falagrady stands in goal for Regis and owns a 0.642 save percentage with 43 total saves this year.
South Dakota is scheduled to take the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday ahead of Sunday's matchup. The Hardrockers are 1-13-2 overall this year and have yet to win a conference match (0-8). As a unit, South Dakota averages 0.88 goals per game on 8.6 shots per game.
Brady Cork is the Hardrockers leading goal scorer with three goals on the season. Bernardo Almeida and Ransom Hall have each scored two goals while seven different Hardrockers have supplied a goal as well. Daniel Freitas defends the net for SDSM. The freshman has made 77 saves this season against 236 shots faced.
With the final two games of the season coming up and a spot in the postseason on the line, Fort Lewis will need to win out the remainder of the year for a chance at the RMAC tournament.
