FLC men’s golfers sixth

Mitchell Donley recorded a 161 (83-78) to tie for 20th overall and lead the Fort Lewis College men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish over the weekend at the Colorado School of Mines Bob Writz Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club (par 72, 7,276 yards).

The Skyhawks posted a 340 in Saturday’s opening round and improved by 20 strokes in Sunday’s second and final round for a 660.

“We couldn’t have had better weather,” head coach Guy Begay said. “The team is putting in as many starts as we can with conference in a month. We’re going to take a few days to collect ourselves and get to work after spring break. It may not seem like we’re getting better, but the numbers are not reflecting how much the team has grown since the fall. They’re more mature and getting more comfortable to the new system.”

Joshua Woodworth followed Donley for the Skyhawks, tying for 24th overall with a 162 (87-75). Trevor Bogus posted an 84-83 to tie for 32nd with a 167, followed by Dillon Washburn’s 170 (86-84), good for 37th, and Riggs Winz, 51st with a 178 (87-91).

Competing as individuals in the two-round tournament were Ryan Tanner and Bo Ward. Tanner tied for 28th overall with a 166 (82-84) and Ward posted a 170 (92-78) to finish 37th.

Colorado School of Mines won the 10-team tournament with a 601. Max Oelfke of Colorado State University was medalist with a 143 (69-74).

The Skyhawks’ next tournament is April 13-14 at the regional crossover in Denver.
