Fort Lewis College got off to a comfortable 2-0 lead, an uncomfortable 2-1 advantage late in the game, then held on for a 2-1 victory over Colorado Christian on Sunday in Lakewood.
Yannis Becker had a foot in both of the Skyhawks’ goals.
Becker assisted Tamino Kroeger’s team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 26th minute, then added his third, unassisted, with 20 minutes left to play in regulation.
“I thought we played well (Sunday) and kept control of the game with possession of the ball and created a lot of chances in our attacking third,” FLC men’s soccer head coach Oige Kennedy said in a news release. “Our opponent worked extremely hard, and again their team was very disciplined in how they defended.”
Luke Burgaard scored the Cougars’ goal with 3½ minutes to play in regulation.
“I think the only negative for us (Sunday) was not picking up the second clean sheet in a row,” said Kennedy, whose Skyhawks improved to 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Skyhawks (4-2, 2-0 RMAC) will host UC-Colorado Springs at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Dirks Field and Regis at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the first two games of a three-game homestand for the Skyhawks. Six of their next seven games will be played at Dirks Field.
