A Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team that entered the weekend losers of five of its last seven games was looking for something to feel good about.
The Skyhawks got it Friday.
FLC jumped on top of CSU-Pueblo and kept adding to the lead, eventually topping the ThunderWolves 4-0 on Friday in Pueblo.
Luke Lawrence opened the scoring off a feed from Austin Derksen, putting the ball between a defender’s legs and firing it in from about 25 yards out.
Jordan Alexander doubled FLC’s lead, scoring off a through ball from Artur Piperkov.
Derksen got a goal of his own, bending a shot in from about 20 yards out with his right foot off a pass from Maik Brandt.
Johannes Sander’s header off a Zac Lawrence corner kick capped the scoring for the Skyhawks (7-5-1, 4-5-0 RMAC).
“We had possession, created a lot of chances, and I think three of the four goals came from outside the 18-yard box,” FLC head coach Oige Kennedy said.
The clean sheet was only FLC’s fourth of the season.
“That’s what we’ve been talking about all week, all season really,” Kennedy said.
“We’ll win games if we keep clean sheets.”
