The regular season is over. Now both Fort Lewis College soccer teams can focus on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
The FLC men’s team wrapped up the regular season Friday afternoon at South Dakota Mines and came away with a 3-1 win in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Skyhawks finished the schedule 9-5-4 overall and 9-3-2 in the RMAC to finish third in the conference. FLC will host the sixth-seeded Regis Rangers (8-8, 6-8 RMAC) at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Dirks Field in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. FLC has wins of 2-1 and 1-0 against the Rangers this season.
Fort Lewis’ women’s team finished ninth in the conference in the standings but will receive the eighth and final seed for the RMAC tournament because Westminster College of Salt Lake City is still not eligible for postseason play in the third and final year of its transition from the NAIA level to NCAA Division II.
The Skyhawks finished the regular season slate 4-10-1 overall and 4-8 in the RMAC after taking a 6-0 loss to Colorado Mines on Saturday in Golden. The FLC women will travel to face RMAC women’s soccer top-seed Regis at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Rangers finished the regular season 13-2-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the RMAC. FLC and Regis met only once during the women’s regular season, and the Rangers won 1-0 in Durango.
The FLC women were held to only one shot in Saturday’s loss to Colorado Mines and were outshot 27-1, including 17-1 in shots on goal. The Orediggers scored four times in the first half. Five players scored in the match, led by Brooke Stoermer’s two goals.
Ali Miller made 10 saves in goal for the Skyhawks.
