FLC softball drops weekend series to Eagles

Rodman and Shotten supply fire power for Skyhawks

While the Fort Lewis College softball team out hit the Chadron State College Eagles 12-8 in their two games Sunday, timely opportunities allowed the Eagles to find the edge in both games. Chadron defeated the Skyhawks 6-5 and 3-2 in Games 3 and 4 to win the four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series 3-1.

The teams split Saturday’s contests, with FLC winning the first game 7-6 and Chadron taking the second game 9-1.

Cat Rodman was the star for FLC in Game 1, driving in five of the team’s runs and hitting a pair of home runs.

In Game 2, Chadron pushed across three runs in the bottom of the second inning and five more in the bottom of the fifth, then held the Skyhawks scoreless with just two hits through the final three innings to force the mercy rule, 9-1.

On Sunday, only a run separated the teams on both games, but Chadron had some big hits when it needed them.

Sloan Shotten hit a grand slam for FLC in Game 3, but Chadron rallied late.

In Game 4, Chadron jumped on Fort Lewis early, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Skyhawks strung together three-straight singles in the top of the third off the bats of Alyssa Gutierrez, Shotton, and Kayla Stone to drive in a pair of runs, but FLC would get no more.

FLC is now 6-13 overall and 4-8 in the RMAC. Chadron improved to 6-13, 4-8.
