Art: “Of Ephemeral Structures: The Art of Patricia Sonnino” will open with reception at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18. Her current paintings, inspired by urban environments, visually describe unstable and ephemeral conditions, creating images inspired by construction structures such as barriers, nets and scaffolding.
Theater: “A Chekhovian Sonata,” a collection of three love stories based on the delightful, yet poignant, writings of Anton Chekhov, will open Feb. 13.

The widely popular Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats will astound and amaze as the troupe presents a new show, Cirque Ziva, on Wednesday.
The Metropolitan Opera – Live in HD will present Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta / Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle featuring soprano Anna Netrbko on Feb. 14.
Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, an exciting evening of flamenco dance, features accomplished artists from both the U.S. and Spain. Happiness, sadness, joy and sorrow are translated through this eloquent art form. The show will be performed Feb. 19.
Alan Doyle, lead singer for Newfoundland’s beloved band, Great Big Sea, is touring in support of his second solo album, “So Let’s Go,” a rousing offering with an underlying theme of optimism. It will be held Feb. 26.

A middle and high school band clinic concert will be held Saturday.
The Red Shoe Trio, with our newest faculty member, virtuoso violinist Brent Williams, along with pianist Lisa Campi Walters and Cellist Katherine Jetter, have prepared a program certain to delight audiences just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Trio will transport the audience from the realm of horror and deepest despair with the Shostakovich Piano No.2 in E Minor, to a place of passion and poetry with the Brahms Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor. The show will be Sunday.

Omri Shimron, pianist, educator and recording artist, was born in the United States but raised in Israel, where he received his early musical training. There will be a recital Feb. 26 and a master class Feb. 27.
The FLC choirs are gearing up for their international tour to Italy, Germany and Austria in May. They will perform some favorites from the last three years and new pieces in preparation for the tour. Concerts this semester will be a preview of what they will be performing for international audiences and will include works by Menotti, Gjeilo, Whitacre, Mealor and more. The first concert is Feb. 27.
On March 1, talented soprano Dori Smith will perform at a recital.
