FLC women’s lacrosse rolls in RMAC opener

Although only a freshman, hat tricks are becoming old hat for Taylor Cabrera.

Cabrera recorded her second three-goal game in as many days, leading the Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team to its second consecutive victory, an impressive 15-2 drubbing of Adams State in Alamosa in FLC’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener.

Cabrera, one of three Skyhawks to record hat tricks in Saturday’s 15-7 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo, has a team-high nine goals this season.

Rebecca Miller added two goals and two assists and a team-high three draw controls for FLC. Jam Vertner added two goals and an assist and Ellie Carpenter had one goal and two assists. Eleven Skyhawks scored against the Grizzlies, with Mac Harper, Alyssa Montoya, Nikki Fry, Becky Salamon and Lauren Appenzeller all coming off the bench to record their first goals of the season.

Sara McMahon led the team with four ground balls and Carly Smoke added three.

Brie Walker earned her second consecutive win in goal, making four saves in 47 minutes between the posts. Ally Guerrero played the last 12 minutes in goal.

The Skyhawks (3-1, 1-0 RMAC) will continue their seven-game road trip Sunday at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
