Flowers are for dances and special occasions, but Floral Expressions reminds folks they're for lots of other events, too.

"A bad day, a good day, a breakup, and unexpected news!" owner Hiedi Lewis said.

Her business opened this summer in the Aspen Plaza in the back of Studio Sellke, next to Brenda's Old West Cafe.

Lewis has 15 years of experience as a florist, including at Giggleswick, a formal floral company in Bayfield.

Floral Expressions offers free delivery in Bayfield, Ignacio and Durango, and wire service can provide flowers around the world.

Weddings and events are specialties, of course, but walk-in customers are welcome as well.

"I'm having a ball," Lewis said. "I love flowers. I love beautiful, colorful things. I love making people happy."

Lewis previously worked in sales, and she likes delivering people something they want now, instead of a sales call.

"I enjoy walking up and making them smile," she said.

She offers a vase trade for flowers, giving customers a discount in exchange for vases or baskets, or a credit for a future purchase.

In addition to fresh flowers, she also works in silk flowers and dried plants, and also creates wreaths.

Do you have a sick plant? She can take it in for some rehab, and also offers "plantsitting" for someone going on vacation or heading south for the winter.
