For the frugal foodie, Be Local

If you are in a quandary over what to buy your favorite foodie for Christmas, the 2014 Be Local Book may be just the ticket.

The popular coupon book, which went on sale last week, features deals for most of Durango’s fine dining establishments, as well as savings at natural food stores, wine shops and the farmer’s market. In all, this year’s book has 279 coupons from 170 local businesses. With only the mildest level of commitment, you’ll make back your $18 investment and then some. My method for ensuring I had the right coupon with me when I needed it was to cull out all the ones I thought I would use and keep them in a plastic bag in my purse.

Coupons in the book are good all year, but only a limited number of books are printed, so if you don’t get them while they’re available, you’ll have to wait until next year. Books are available at many local stores, including Nature’s Oasis, Maria’s Bookshop and Durango Coffee Co.
