A gloomy forecast has already taken its toll on area high school sports.
The annual Pine River Invitational track and field meet originally scheduled for Saturday at Bayfield High School has been postponed until Wednesday, April 27. Durango High School and Ignacio High School’s teams were both expected to attend Bayfield’s meet, but with rain and potentially heavy snow in the forecast, Bayfield got ahead of the situation with an early call.
It’s a busy weekend in La Plata County with prep and Fort Lewis College events scheduled. Durango’s baseball team is set to host Grand Junction Central on Friday and Saturday, while the Bayfield baseball team is hoping to squeeze in a doubleheader with Centauri on Saturday. Ignacio’s baseball team is also hoping to play host to Dolores on Saturday.
The Fort Lewis women’s lacrosse team is also scheduled to host Colorado Mesa on Saturday. Decisions on the rest of this weekend’s events have yet to be made.
“We’re really hoping to wait and see what (Friday) morning brings,” DHS athletic director David Preszler said. “We’ll possibly be moving some start times around.”
