Forest Lakes resident found dead by Lake Simpatico

Man appeared to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities

A Forest Lakes resident was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 3.

Someone walking in the area of Lake Simpatico noticed the body and called the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office at 10:19 a.m., according to authorities. Sheriff’s investigators and the county coroner responded to the scene. The man’s body was found beside some trees near the lake. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered near the body.

The deceased was identified as Forest Lakes resident Karl Rohrer, 49. The family has been notified.

“It sounds like this individual may have just been going through some hard times and may have disappeared from his family’s residence the evening before,” said Sgt. Wes Doughty of the Sheriff’s Office.

No note was found by investigators.
