The Columbine Ranger District will close Forest Road 596 to wheeled, motorized vehicles on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20.
The road is being closed earlier than the planned date of Dec. 31 because of the significant amount of snow that has fallen recently.
Roads are closed seasonally to wheeled, motorized vehicles to protect critical wildlife habitat and/or to prevent damage to road surfaces during freezing and thawing periods.
Visitors to the San Juan National Forest should be prepared to encounter closed gates on a number of forest roads across the Columbine Ranger District.
