The Columbine Ranger District will burn about 30 slash piles in the Sauls Creek area of the San Juan National Forest today east of Bayfield. Piles are the result of recent thinning and firewood activities, and are burned after snowfall for safety reasons. Firefighters will ignite and closely monitor pile-burning activities, which should not affect public access or use of these areas.
