Wednesday was the last day of this week's prescribed burn east of Bayfield in Saul's Creek, according to a press release from the U.S. Forest Service. Staff burned about 775 acres. Prescribed burning is used to improve forest health and wildlife habitat, as well as reduce fire danger. "The fire behavior and weather was in line with anticipated activity and forecasts," said Chris Tipton, a prescribed burn manager. Some of the forest brush had been chewed up earlier by a hydromower.
