As former or current Durango School District 9-R school board members, we care deeply about our schools and need your help. Everyone must be invested in this election to ensure we can continue providing needed resources that positively reflect our community values. Our kids can’t vote, but you can.
School boards everywhere are under attack by candidates with hidden agendas. We must choose responsible leaders who are committed to serving students, staff members and families with fidelity to their duties and a willingness to listen to all.
Erika Brown, Andrea Parmenter and Rick Petersen will achieve the greatest outcomes for our students and their combined experience will best serve our community. Brown and Parmenter have shown their commitment by helping to pass the 2020 school bond and hiring Superintendent Karen Cheser. They, along with Rick Petersen, believe unequivocally in the value of public education and understand that their role is to act in the interests of the entire community, not just one particular group.
Effective board members must model accurate information, encourage strong public relationships and focus on all students regardless of ability or background. Working to overcome unmet needs, the current board obtained seed money to help start the Innovation Center, which will help thousands of students acquire the skills and vocational trades America demands.
Brown, Parmenter and Petersen believe in supporting trained staff members and educational experts; in respecting the boundaries of board policy; in reasoned approaches to decision-making, and in you to vote for the best outcomes for every student.
