As former executive directors of the Women’s Resource Center who continue to work in the nonprofit sector as staff, consultants, and board members, we are deeply saddened to see a local nonprofit go through so much turmoil. We all work diligently for our community, as Tammy Tyner did. We are reaching out to request community support during this difficult transition.
We are working closely with Christy Schaerer, WRC’s interim and former executive director, who worked for the center for 12 years, offering her our knowledge and support. Together, we are focused on ensuring the WRC continues its mission: to advocate for the personal empowerment and economic self-sufficiency of women and girls in La Plata County.
The WRC has been a valuable resource for our community for almost 40 years. Now is the time to come together to support clients, program participants, staff and the organization’s supporters while we evaluate the processes needed to keep this vital resource strong.
As with all nonprofits where staff and board work together, guided by a shared passion for their mission, challenges can arise. We believe in ongoing training so that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. We also believe in learning from our mistakes and moving forward with open eyes and hearts.
We need time to heal, and the community does too. Please join us in supporting Christy, the board and the broader community during this transition. We welcome your positive ideas, thoughts, passion and knowledge as we work to preserve this essential organization.
