Two school records fell for the Fort Lewis College cross country team at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Saturday in Hays, Kansas.
FLC senior Maddie Kruger finished 10th in the women’s five-kilometer race in a Skyhawks’ best 17 minutes, 53 seconds.
Christian Gering also broke the Skyhawks’ record for an 8K race, taking 16th in 24:13, which was 47 seconds faster than the previous record, according to an email from FLC head coach Mark Dutro.
The Skyhawks’ women’s team took sixth out of 17 teams, and the FLC men were seventh of 17.
Perennial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference power No. 2 Adams State and No. 5 Colorado Mines won the women’s and men’s meets, respectively.
No. 4 Western State was second in the women’s race behind Adams State, and No. 10 UC-Colorado Springs took third.
On the men’s side, No. 6 Western State was second, and No. 1 Adams State finished fourth.
Ian Butler of Western State won the men’s 8K in 23:33, and Jenna Thurman of Adams State took first in the women’s 5K in 17:14.
Katherine Judge was 33rd for FLC in 18:28 in the women’s race, followed by teammates Emily White in 42nd at 18:41, Kelsi Lawrence in 66th at 19:15, Chloe Boehlke in 79th at 19:29, Julia Boyd-Helm in 91st at 19:45 and Erin Renner in 124th at 20:43.
Gering ran to a top-20 finish for the FLC men, as well, taking 16th in 24:13.
Garrett Sapakoff was 66th for the Skyhawks men at 25:12, Joey Brenner took 72nd in 25:21, Tate Lagasca finished 80th in 25:35, William Scoggins was 92nd in 25:50, Michael Walker took 94th in 25:52, Derek Laue finished 103rd at 26:28, Ryan Mott was 137th at 26:32, John Booton took 152nd in 26:50, and Zach Chenoweth finished 158th in 26:58.
FLC finished its regular season Saturday and will run at the RMAC Championships on Nov. 8 in Gunnison.
