Fort Lewis College Fiesta on the Mesa to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Eliseo (Cheo) Hernandez and Krista Bajgier dance to the music of Las Cafeteras during the 2016 Fiesta on the Mesa put on by El Central at Fort Lewis College.

The 13th annual Fiesta on the Mesa celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with authentic food, folkloric dances and live music on Friday at the Student Union Plaza at Fort Lewis College.

All Fort Lewis College students, faculty and staff can have dinner for free with a college ID.

Fiesta on the Mesa’s live outdoor entertainment is free and open to everyone. Dinner is $10. Children younger than 10 eat for $4. It runs from 5-7:30 p.m.

This year’s live music will be provided by Los Mitotitos, a family-friendly, local band that includes a number of Durango High School students and graduates. Ballet Folklorico de Durango also will perform.

Fiesta on the Mesa kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated nationally from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The date also commemorates “El Dia del Grito,” Mexico’s Independence Day.
