The Fort Lewis College lacrosse team kept its conference tournament hopes alive Friday afternoon as it thumped Adams State 16-1 in Alamosa.
The Skyhawks (2-5, 2-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) got contributions from across the board in the win, as Delaney Benson and Abby Escandon scored four goals a piece, while Ann Nelson and Maren Clark added three each to secure the win.
“We really focused on our plays today and were smart in our decisions,” said FLC head coach Sean Claussen. “We ran the clock down to the final 30 seconds of the shot clock a lot of our possessions and just played right until the final whistle blew. We scored in the final minute of the first and second half, so it was great to see.”
With the win, Fort Lewis remained undefeated against Adams State (0-9, 0-5 RMAC), as it improved to 16-0 all-time.
FLC was forced to play a player-down for most of the game after it lost its third player in two games to a concussion. Still, the Grizzlies never threatened. FLC goalkeeper Daris Wienk finished with 10 saves on the afternoon.
“It was big for morale and we are happy to win, but my big concern is our loss of our third player,” Claussen said. “We are hopeful that we will get one player back for next week, but right now we don’t have enough players healthy to play a full game. Right now, we’ve got momentum heading into next week, but we are just gonna be hopeful and put any good karma toward our health.”
Fort Lewis will take on No. 3 Lindenwood (12-0, 4-0 RMAC) at 8 p.m. Friday in Colorado Springs.
