The season came to an end Friday for Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse team.
One day after winning the second playoff game in school history, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s top-seed and the nation’s No. 2 ranked team Lindenwood University (St. Charles, Missouri) beat FLC 12-3 in the RMAC tournament semifinal and ended the Skyhawks season.
Lindenwood (20-0) will advance to play No. 2 seed and tournament host Regis which beat Colorado Mesa 14-12 in the other semifinal. The Rangers (16-2) are ranked 16th in the national poll.
The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead and nearly held the Skyhawks (9-7) scoreless for the first half.
However, Rebecca Miller’s goal got FLC on the board with 41 seconds left in the half and it was anyone’s game heading into halftime.
Lindenwood pulled away early in the second half, though.
The Lions blew the game wide open after scoring six of first seven goals to start the second half. Kelli Warmouth and Megan Longtain added second-half goals, but it was far from enough as Lindenwood cruised to the 12-3 win. Lindenwood’s Morgan Judd led all scorers with four goals.
Fort Lewis led in shots (31-26), draw controls (10-7) and ground balls (19-17). Skyhawks goalkeeper Alyssa Spencer stopped six shots in the loss.
FLC finished the season with nine wins and ended the season with a winning record for the fourth year in a row.
